Syncing N900 calendar
2010/09/09 filed under /mobileI'm the proud owner of a Nokia N900 now for a while and I really wanted to use the calendar application on there. The N900 is Debian-based and comes with syncevolution so syncing the phone with my Ubuntu desktop should be a breeze. All you need is a server to sync with, and luckily Funambol helps out here.
So far so good. After setting that up I could sync the phone with Evolution but that was not enough. I also wanted web based access. My preferred online calendar software is still 30Boxes but unfortunately, they don't support syncml, so syncing was a no-go.
Nokia, however, offers you a rather nice web interface to calendars with their Ovi Calendar and syncing there does work with syncevolution!
So now I had access to my calendar from my phone, desktop and from anywhere using the Ovi Calendar website.
That left me with my work Macbook. There are some unofficial plugins for iSync, but I never managed to get that to work and quite frankly, I don't care about it that much. I just want to see my upcoming events.
Rainlendar brings you a nifty desktop widget that shows .ics files (calendar files). So the only thing left now was to get Evolution's calendar ics file, and sync it with the macbook.
Long live Dropbox! All I needed was one symlink in my "dropbox" to the evolution ics file et voila, my syncing was complete!
