Jakarta Flooding

2007/02/05 filed under /news

As you undoubtedly have noticed by now, Indonesia is, once again, being tortured by Mother Nature. After a tsunami, many earthquakes, volcanic activity, we still lacked this act: flooding.

Flickr has some beautiful images on this:

What can you do besides waiting (and/or playing ?). I hope the water level soon drops, so normal life can be restored. Take care Jakarta!

Update: the first picture is not from this year's flooding, it's from 2006, but it's just too nice to remove ;-)

I don't want to be rude, but sitting around is a posture you often see (under normal circumstances!) in south-east asia. Having been in Singapore and its surroundings the last half year I did see a couple nice scenes too! Nice pictures.
By the way, Jakarta is worth seeing, as a european just don't be too excited about eating in every eating spot you see. Your stomach won't love you.

I know sitting around is a common site, yet sitting around a lot of water is (thankfully) not too common.

As for the food: the little warungs offer by far the best tasting food (according to me). Way better than fancy restaurants. I never experienced too many stomach problems, but heard different from other Europeans, yes ;-)

So, if you go there, be careful, but not too careful or you miss out on all the delicious food ;-)

This is becoming a comment-spot for travel advice ;-)
I do agree on the warungs, I'm just a bit biased cause one of them put me into "bed" for a week.
I love this cocnut with sugar added to its core, very jummy..

I'm not a big coconut lover, so I luckily never experienced any problems with that. So yeah, to update the travel advice section of this blog: just be careful with water and ice ;-)

Ice cold drinks in a blazing hot environment isn't too good for your stomach to begin with. I always order my drinks without ice and don't eat like salads, washed in water...

... just order sateh, martabak telor or anything that will be cooked/fried thoroughly ;-)
