Overvecht is an area of Utrecht. I live here for several years now and it always has been a rather quiet area.

But more and more unpleasant events are unfolding in this part of the city. In August 2005, the body of Ilona Nemeth has been found in a park at the end of my street and today, there has been an explosion due to a gas-leak in a nearby shopping area.

Ironically, also today, I received a newsletter in my mailbox regarding this shopping center. The authors wished me a happy 2006 and hoped I would come spend my money over there again. They also announced the upcoming renovation. Hopefully, they don't see explosions as part of that plan.

Luckily I wasn't near the area during the explosion. After work, I drove past the shopping center (like every day) and it really looked bad. It was clear that there must have been a massive force blowing everything away. The backside of the store-that-used-to-be was completely demolished, way worse than the front part (as shown on pictures in the media).

Oh well, I still like the area here, but will move regardless (yes, I will be buying a house soon!). Utrecht isn't fitting in my budget, so I am forced out of the city. So not because of the events of lately, but it least it makes saying goodbye to Overvecht (and the evil bastards) easier.
